Mesothelioma and Asbestos

Helping you receive compensation for needless asbestos exposure

Mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer that develops from asbestos exposure. Along with representing clients in other types of accident and injury cases, Theodoros & Rooth, P.C. also has experience dealing with mesothelioma cases where we hold manufacturers and other liable parties accountable for their negligence. By working with an Indiana mesothelioma attorney, you can receive the compensation you deserve.

What is mesothelioma?

Mesothelioma develops in a lining (called mesothelium) that covers bodily organs and lines organ cavities. The lungs are the main areas where mesothelioma develops. However, it also can occur in the cavities surrounding the heart and abdomen, but cancer in these bodily areas is far less common. The disease has a latency period of anywhere from 20 to 50 years, which means it takes that long for the first signs of the disease to emerge after exposure.

According to the U.S. National Cancer Institute, doctors diagnose approximately 2,000 to 3,000 patients with mesothelioma every year. Statistics show that mesothelioma occurs most frequently in individuals over the age of 55, but there is also an increasing number of younger people between ages 20 and 40 being diagnosed today. Mesothelioma develops in men at five times the rate that it does in women. Workplace exposure is the probable reason for the disease’s greater development in men. Mesothelioma treatment

A variety of treatments are available, depending on the nature of the individual case and the stage of mesothelioma. Oncologists often use traditional treatments such as surgery, radiation or chemotherapy. Other approaches may also be possible, such as clinical trials using immunotherapy and gene-targeted therapy. Covering costs for treatment and other expenses

As with any form of cancer, the expense for treatment is costly, which is why after a mesothelioma diagnosis, it is important to consult an Indiana mesothelioma lawyer who can explain your options for recovering compensation. Despite the fact that you have good health insurance, insurance companies generally cover only a portion of the expenses and usually only traditional medical approaches.

If you are unable to work, the burden of lost income is another costly factor, which is also a damage that we can address in your lawsuit. By recovering compensation on your behalf, we can help you deal with the financial hardships typically associated with mesothelioma.
